One-day Workshop on Application of New HL7 Capabilities
Thursday, 4th July 2013, Victoria University Convention Centre – Flinders Street, Melbourne

HL7 continues to advance on many fronts – v2.8 messages are just around the corner, and we now hear much about FHIR and “Consolidated CDA”.

This workshop will explore recent developments in HL7 and other standards and how to leverage these new capabilities in practical implementations to address both existing and emerging needs, particularly for communication of clinical information.

The workshop provides an opportunity to find out more and to discuss the following:

  • The continuing evolution of FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), the next HL7 international interoperability standard.  Opportunities to participate in the first Australian FHIR connectathon in October will also be presented.
  • Capabilities of HL7v2.x messaging beyond HL7 v2.4 – including features of v2.5 through v2.9, how to access them? What should be done about implementation? and what does this mean for the Australian standards?
  • Current issues in the communication of clinical information, including using both HL7 and the new services-oriented approaches, emerging needs in pathology and developments in care planning.
  • An update on developments and opportunities in the world of “consolidated CDA” (widely used in the USA – particularly for standardized clinical content).
